Qualcomm Reaches 3G/4G Licensing Deals with Tianyu and Haier
December 30, 2015

Chinese smartphone makers Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment Co. (which sells mobile phones under the brand K-Touch) and Haier Group have entered into an agreement with Qualcomm respectively to pay royalties under patent licenses that allow them to make mobile devices using 3G/4G wireless technologies, reported Wall Street Journal on December 29. The deals cover covering 3G WCDMA and CDMA (including EV-DO), and 4G LTE (including "3-mode" GSM, TD-SCDMA and LTE-TDD). Qualcomm said the royalties payable by the two Chinese companies are consistent with the rectification plan it submitted to China's National Reform and Development Commission. However, the financial terms were not disclosed.
